Food-grade silicone provides a healthier, more inert alternative to plastics such as PVC and urethane for use in food and beverage applications. Silicone doesn’t require plasticizers to make it perform elastically, so there is far less leaching of harmful chemicals like BPA into food and liquids, meaning that it preserves customer health without sacrificing the durable properties of rubber. Further, because of the lack of plasticizers, it does not impart taste or odors to the food or beverage that it contacts. Additionally, silicone is resilient and nonporous, and therefore it provides an ideal storage solution.

FDA Grade/Food Grade Silicone: Common Applications

We design our food grade silicone compounds to conform to 21CFR177.2600, which is the FDA “gold standard” for food contact applications. These products can be used in a wide variety of food processing, packaging, and preparation applications. Because only specific ingredients can be used in food and beverage applications, we make sure to procure raw materials only from the most reliable sources and strictly control the compounding and formulations all within our factory.

FDA grade silicone must be finished in a specialized way so that it doesn’t contaminate items that come into contact with the material. Food-grade silicone must also be able to operate in temperatures ranging from −103°F to 450°F, and it must be a nonmarking material to avoid contaminating products.

NSF International is an accredited, independent organization that tests, audits, and certifies products and systems in food and water processing based on their safety and impact on human health.
